DECREE For Publication to Each and Everyone

Greetings In The Lord 

Among the most important responsibilities of the Bishop’s pastoral office is assurance that there is suitable provision of divine worship and Catholic community life for Christ’s faithful people who are committed to his care. At the same time the pastor of each parish needs to be able to satisfy without undue difficulty the parochial responsibilities assigned to him by his Bishop. 

The following just causes support the establishment of a consolidated parish in the Woodbury area of Gloucester County, New Jersey: 

1) to provide more effectively for the pastoral needs of the faithful of the parish of Saint Patrick in Gloucester County, New Jersey; the parish of Most Holy Redeemer in Gloucester County, New Jersey and the parish of Saint Matthew in Gloucester County, New Jersey; 

2) to assure the vitality of parish life in this area; 

3) to provide for a better stewardship of resources; and, 

4) to provide for the optimum use of clergy, religious, and lay personnel. 

For the reasons listed above as well as the experience of core representatives from each of the respective parish communities working, planning, and praying together so that they may become bonded into one community of faith; because of the communality of the parish communities of Saint Patrick, 85 Euclid Street, Woodbury; Most Holy Redeemer, 1219 Delsea Drive, Westville Grove and Saint Matthew, 4th Street and Monument Avenue, National Park; in response to the request of the pastors of these communities, Reverend Monsignor Joseph V. DiMauro (Saint Patrick, Woodbury and Saint Matthew, National Park) and Reverend Robert J. Kantz (Most Holy Redeemer, Westville Grove) to unite these parishes; the favorable advice of the local Vicar Forane; and having listened to the opinions of the Presbyteral Council about the needs of the Catholic Faithful in this area of Gloucester County, I have determined that the pastoral care of these communities will be fostered best by consolidating these individual communities and uniting them as one new parish. 

Accordingly, in virtue of the prescripts of canon 121 and canon 515, §1 of the Code of Canon Law, in order to provide more effectively for the spiritual welfare and the salvation of souls, having judged that sufficiently just causes are present, and having consulted the Presbyteral Council in accord with canon 515, §2, I hereby DECREE, ANNOUNCE and PUBLISH: 

The merger of Saint Patrick, 85 Euclid Street, Woodbury; Most Holy Redeemer, 1219 Delsea Drive, Westville Grove and Saint Matthew, 4th Street and Monument Avenue, National Park and the establishment of Holy Angels Parish. 

Reverend Monsignor Joseph V. DiMauro will serve as the Pastor of Holy Angels Parish for a term of six years commencing on the effective date of this decree. 

The parochial church of Holy Angels Parish, which retains its proper title and the name Saint Patrick Church, is located at 85 Euclid Street, Woodbury, New Jersey. Saint Matthew Church which is located at 4th Street and Monument Avenue, National Park, New Jersey will retain its own proper title and will be maintained as a worship site to be used by the merged community. 

The territorial boundaries of Holy Angels Parish are established and duly recorded at the Chancery Office of the Diocese of Camden, as: 

Start at the point where the Woodbury Creek flows into the Delaware River.

1. Southeast along the Woodbury Creek to the point it intersects Crown Point Rd (Rt. 44)

2. Southwest on Crown Point Rd (Rt. 44) to Mantua Grove Rd (Co. Rt. 656)

3. Southeast on Mantua Grove Rd (Co. Rt. 656), which becomes Parkville Station Rd., to the point it intersects the West Jersey and Seashore Line Railroad

4. Northeast on West Jersey and Seashore Line to the first point the West Jersey and Seashore line intersects the Woodbury City corporate line (near an inter section of the imaginary straight line drawn to extend Harding Ave to the west and the West Jersey and Seashore Line) 5. Northeast and east along the Woodbury City corporate line to the point it intersects Glassboro Rd (Co. Rt. 553)

6. Southeast on Glassboro Rd (Co. Rt. 553) to the New Jersey Turnpike

7. Northeast on the New Jersey Turnpike to Cooper St (Co. Rt. 534)

8. East on Cooper St (Co. Rt. 534) to Clements Bridge Rd (Co. Rt. 544)

9. Northeast on Clements Bridge Rd (Co. Rt. 544) to the point it intersects the Big Timber Creek

10. Northwest along the Big Timber Creek to the point it intersects the Deptford Township – Westville corporate limit near Rt 295

11. Southwest, and then northwest a very short distance along the Deptford Township limit to its point of intersection with an imaginary (straight) line drawn to extend Marion Ave north (from the intersection of Marion Ave and Marion Plaza)

12. South on the imaginary (straight) line drawn to extend Marion Ave then south on Marion Ave to the point it intersects the Woodbury City limit at Park Ave

13. West along the Woodbury City limit to its point of intersection with Hessian Ave

14. West on Hessian Ave to Academy Ave

15. West on Academy Ave and an imaginary (straight) line drawn to extend Academy Ave to the northbound on-ramp from Crown Point Rd to Rt 295

16. North on the Rt 295 on-ramp, then Rt 295 a very short distance, to the point it intersects an imaginary (straight) line drawn to extend Colonial Ave

17. North from this point of intersection following the imaginary (straight) line drawn to extend Colonial Ave through the tank farm to the Bank of the Delaware River

18. Southwest along the Delaware River to the point the Woodbury Creek flows into the Delaware River (point of origin) 

The goods and property of the parishes of Saint Patrick, Most Holy Redeemer and Saint Matthew, including their real estate and buildings, as well as their debts and obligations, shall be assigned to Holy Angels Parish. Further, the voluntary offerings of the faithful, as well as other grants, pledges and gifts which have been or will be made to either of these predecessor parishes will constitute revenue to Holy Angels Parish for the benefit of the pastoral life of this community of the faithful as well as the rightful support of those who minister to them. 

As of the effective date of this DECREE, the sacramental registers of Saint Patrick, 85 Euclid Street, Woodbury; Most Holy Redeemer, 1219 Delsea Drive, Westville Grove and Saint Matthew, 4th Street and Monument Avenue, National Park will be closed and moved to the seat of Holy Angels Parish, 85 Euclid Street, Woodbury. All sacraments administered from that date forward will be recorded in new sacramental registers of Holy Angels Parish. 

I approve the statutes of Holy Angels Parish as submitted. 

As of the effective date of this DECREE, the financial accounts of Saint Patrick, 85 Euclid Street, Woodbury; Most Holy Redeemer, 1219 Delsea Drive, Westville Grove and Saint Matthew, 4th Street and Monument Avenue, National Park will have been closed and will be transferred to the financial account of Holy Angels Parish. 

As of the effective date of this DECREE, Saint Patrick, 85 Euclid Street, Woodbury; Most Holy Redeemer, 1219 Delsea Drive, Westville Grove and Saint Matthew, 4th Street and Monument Avenue, National Park will be civilly consolidated under the laws of the State of New Jersey as Holy Angels Parish, Woodbury, N.J. 

This DECREE becomes effective on April 21, 2010.

I instruct that this DECREE be communicated immediately to the parishioners of Holy Angels Parish by Reverend Monsignor Joseph V. DiMauro whom I have herein named their Pastor. This DECREE is likewise to be published immediately in the Catholic Star Herald and on the diocesan website.
