The faculty and students of St. Mary Magdalen Regional School hosted a formal tea last month in celebration of International Women’s Month (see photo in “Photo of the Week”).
The highlight of the March 22 event was the keynote speaker, Jennifer Webb-McCrae, the first female prosecutor of Cumberland County,
Kaitlin Hoffman, eighth grade, was a mistress of ceremonies; the O’Neill twins, fourth graders Audrey and Emily, and seventh grader Kate Volpe, led the assembly in the prayer: “Where Can We Find a Brave and Holy Woman?”
Nichole Richard, seventh grade, led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. Kirsten Hoffman, seventh grade, recited African-American abolitionist and women’s rights activist Sojourner Truth’s address “Ain’t I A Woman?” Sixth grader Samantha Kaspar sang the “Dreams to Dream.”
A finishing touch commemorating the celebration was a student-designed quilt honoring women’s historical contributions and featuring the Blessed Mother.
