“Heart and Soul Volunteers” — from Heart of Camden and the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation — work on gutting one of several homes in South Camden to prepare it for renovation.
The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation recently partnered with two organizations in Camden in its effort to offer affordable housing to, and empower, impoverished city residents.
Last month the foundation partnered with Heart of Camden, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Waterfront South residents primarily through housing restoration programs, and advocacy for low-income families.
“Heart and Soul Volunteer Day” saw close to 100 volunteers gut the interior of five homes to help prepare them for renovationsthat will create affordable housing for low-income families.
The interior of Heart of Camden’s community theater also received a fresh coat of paint as well.
The event was part of Heart of Camden’s monthy Second Saturday Program, which sees voluneers spending the morning involved in tre planting, painting, community clean up or house renovation.
Also, three trainees of Hopeworks ‘N Camden, which provides technology training in web site design and development, and geographic information systems, to Camden youth recently met with golfer Tiger Woods in Philadelphia. Partnering with the Soul Foundation, the Tiger Woods foundation is helping to fund a part of the construction costs of the C.R.I.B., a residential housing facility for youth attending college and working at Hopeworks.
Speaking with the three youth, Woods stressed that the key to motivation is to do something you’re proud of, every day.
