On April 11, 1968, Sister Angela Pia Camillotti, F.M.I.J., along with Sister Angela D’Alessandro, F.M.I.J., arrived in the United States to begin their mission, specifically in New Jersey, helping to educate the children of the Diocese of Camden, initially the children of Saint Margaret Regional School, Woodbury Heights.
After 53 years in the United States, Sister Angela Pia is being reassigned, returning Nov. 29 to her native Italy. Sister Angela Pia faithfully served the young children of Saint Margaret School until she was asked to move to Saint Joseph Pro-Cathedral, directing the nursery school on Federal Street in Camden. She continued her mission in New Jersey at Holy Cross, Rumson, as well as Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Atlantic Highlands, in the Diocese of Trenton; she then went on to teach at Saint William of York in the Diocese of Arlington, Va.
After many years of teaching and influencing the lives of children and families, Sister Angela Pia continued her ministry in the Parish of Saint Thomas More, Cherry Hill, where she was also assigned to serve the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Infant Jesus at their Delegation House as the major superior and also as the directress of the Mother Mary Joseph Center of Hospitality – a retreat house for groups or individuals.
During her time in Cherry Hill, Sister Angela Pia offered hospitality to many, including priests, sisters, Secular Third Order members, deacons, youth ministries and parish staff. Guests who have stayed at the Hospitality Center have remarked how they were served with a spiritually enriching environment and wonderful Franciscan hospitality. Sister Angela Pia has served our Diocese well, with much love and dedication. We have been blessed by her presence among us, and she will be missed.
On a personal note, Sister Angela Pia says, “I will always remember you in my prayers. I thank you for your love and support in carrying out my mission to ‘love Jesus in our neighbor and our neighbor in Jesus.’ I appreciate each of you, who have become a very special part of my life. We have shared joys and sufferings, making many memories together. I will take these memories with me, bringing them to prayer and treasuring them in my heart.”
Sister Jerilyn Einstein, F.M.I.J., is the principal of Guardian Angels Regional School, Gibbstown and Paulsboro.
