SINSINAWA, Wis. – Sister Frances Cogan, OP, who served at St. James School in Ventnor during part of her 72 years in religious life, died April 7 at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. She was 92.
Sister Frances made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1938 and her final profession Aug. 5, 1941. She taught music and intermediate grades and served in New Jersey, Illinois, Nebraska, the District of Columbia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Iowa and New York.
In the Diocese of Camden, Sister Frances served at St. James School, Ventnor, as a teacher in 1978 and with the Junior Great Books Program in 1991 and 1992.
Sister Frances was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of John and Margaret Cogan. Her parents; four sisters, Helen McAllister, Margaret Doyle, Alyce Gilmartin and Mary Kreidler; and two brothers, John Cogan and Edward Cogan, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass was scheduled for April 13 in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
