Representatives of Deanery 1 were among the first in the Diocese to begin reviewing a 17-page draft report as part of the worldwide Synod of Bishops process, “For a Synodal Church: Communication, Participation and Mission.” Leaders gathered Feb. 5 at Saint Joachim Parish, Bellmawr, to review and edit listening sessions and written submissions that were reported by parishes across the Diocese. The Diocese of Camden remains steadfast on the path to the worldwide Synod of Bishops, called by Pope Francis as a time of prayer, dialogue, and discernment to hear from the Catholic laity. After input from the deaneries is received, Bishop Dennis Sullivan will send the Diocese’s Synod Response to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for their discernment, followed by a working document going to the Vatican. A revised document will be presented to the General Assembly in Rome in October 2023.
