Dozens of faithful, clergy, religious and priests of the Diocese joined Bishop Dennis Sullivan for a live performance depicting the life of Father Augustus Tolton, the first Black American priest in the United States and one of six African-Americans currently on the road to sainthood.

The Feb. 28 presentation, titled “Tolton: From Slave to Priest,” was held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Camden, and introduced by the Bishop and Father John Fisher, OSFS, Cathedral rector. Actor Jim Coleman portrayed Father Tolton, to the backdrop of multimedia from Saint Luke Productions.

The event was sponsored by the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales, the Cathedral Parish and the Diocese’s Black Catholic Ministry Commission.
