Camden Catholic High School senior Martin Cosgrove won a state title at 215 pounds March 5 to become the third wrestler in school history to win multiple state championships.
Cosgrove, a University of Penn commit, was the only wrestler from South Jersey to win a state crown this year among the 14 weight classes at the NJSIAA State Wrestling Championships March 3-5 in Atlantic City. Cosgrove, the top seed, defeated No. 2 seed P.J. Casale of Passaic Valley, 6-5, to win the title.
Two of Cosgrove’s teammates, Jurius Clark (165 pounds) and Jackson Young (120), reached the podium as state place winners, both taking fifth place in their brackets.
Saint Augustine Preparatory School sent three to the podium, led by Kaden Naame, who won the third-place match at 113 pounds. Richie Grungo placed fourth at 144 pounds, and Jake Slotnick captured seventh at 150 pounds for the Hermits. Holy Spirit’s Max Elton took seventh place at 113 pounds, and Paul VI’s Brandon Palcko took eighth at 138 pounds.
