On the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, hundreds of faithful were reminded that the husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus was always obedient to God’s plan.
“Saint Joseph is only mentioned in the Scriptures some 14 times. He never utters a word; he prefers what we call holy silence,” Father John Fisher, OSFS, preached March 19 in Saint Joseph Church, Camden. “His actions and his presence say much more than any words can.
“Joseph stays in the background – always putting the emphasis and focus on Mary and on Jesus. Responding to the will of God quickly, obediently and faithfully – the hallmarks of a devout life. Indeed, he is for us and for the Church a perfect model that can lead us also on the way to a devout life.”
Father Fisher, rector of Camden’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, celebrated Mass in Spanish and English on the solemnity, March 19. He was joined on the altar by Deacon José Rene Zayas and visiting priest Father Jack Kolodziejski, OSFS. Those in attendance included the Polish community of Saint Joseph Church, a worship site of the Cathedral parish, as well as guests from Pueblo Nuevo, Mexico; a visiting singer and Camden’s San Juditas Children’s Choir.
A procession preceded Mass; the festivities concluded with the Blessing of Cars.
