CAMDEN – Virtua Health marked the fifth anniversary of its Eat Well food access program May 8 with a public celebration for all ages on its campus. Adults visited its Mobile Farmers Market, Mobile Grocery Store, and Food Farmacy for healthy and affordable food, health screenings, and prizes, while children received goodie bags of fresh produce, sidewalk chalk and more as well as a lesson in nutrition.
Since 2017, the program has combated food insecurity in Camden and Burlington Counties by providing families access to affordable and healthy food, as well as nutrition education.

“Healthy, nutritious food is a foundation to a healthy lifestyle, and if we can bring it to families, there’s nothing better,” said April Schetler, head of the Eat Well program and assistant vice president of community health engagement at Virtua.
Calling the initiative “a ray of hope” when it comes to addressing health inequities, Dennis Pullin, Virtua Health president and CEO, added that Eat Well “allows us to live out our grand promise to be ‘Here for Good.’”
“If we’re going to stay committed to creating communities of wellness, Eat Well is vital,” he said, adding that he feels “deep pride when I see our vehicles [the Mobile Farmers Market and Mobile Grocery Store] on the road, knowing that we’re reaching out to the communities, and doing what we’re supposed to do.”
