At the beginning of Holy Week, Bishop Dennis Sullivan urged the faithful to remember that “Jesus’ example of obedience to the will of the father is like the obedience that faith demands of us. … Let us not just recall what happened to Jesus when he died. Rather, let us insert ourselves into his obedience and emptying, into his saving Death on the Cross,” Bishop Sullivan preached on Palm Sunday, the day the Church celebrates Jesus’ entrance into the city of Jerusalem, symbolized by the palms parishioners receive at Mass.

Celebrating Mass on April 2 in Williamstown, he said, “May his emptying encourage the emptying you do – for example, by parents for their children, and by grandparents. Some empty themselves at their job, giving their all; others, in marriage [by] wives emptying themselves, their love, into their husbands and husbands to their wives. Others in their communities with neighbors and friends. Emptying ourselves involves the Cross.”

Obedience and emptying, “are the loving actions of Jesus Christ. Love that costs; love that sacrifices,” Bishop Sullivan said during the Mass, which was concelebrated by Father Sanjai Devis, VC, pastor of Our Lady of Peace Parish.
