Five incoming freshmen will be continuing their Catholic education in high schools across the Diocese of Camden this fall with assistance from the 2026 Taylor-Woodson Memorial Scholarship.
This year, the Black Catholic Ministry Commission awarded scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 to those Catholic school eighth-graders who stood out in academics, parish activities and community service, as well as their recommendation letters and autobiographies.
The 2026 scholarship winners are: Lorenzo Clark of Saint Michael the Archangel School, Clayton; Kevon Troy Francis of Holy Angels Catholic School, Woodbury; Gabriel Ortiz of Our Lady Star of the Sea School, Atlantic City; and Kylar Harris and Jace Schwartz of Saint Joseph Pro-Cathedral School, Camden.
Clark, Francis and Schwartz will attend Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, Pennsauken. Harris will enter Saint Paul VI High School, Haddonfield, and Ortiz will go on to Holy Spirit High School, Absecon.

The Taylor-Woodson Memorial Scholarship is named after former members who faithfully supported the program, which for years has provided much needed-financial assistance to worthy students – helping to support them financially and spiritually.
Funding for the scholarship comes from Black Catholic Ministry Commission fundraising events, specifically the annual “Afternoon of Jazz, Plus” – which hosted its 34th event in April. Monies received from the U.S. Bishops’ Black and Indian Mission Office grant also support the scholarship.
“We thank all who donate and continue to support the scholarship fund,” the Black Catholic Ministry Commission said.
