
Father Ireneo Lopez Tovar, who served in the Diocese of Camden for nearly 30 years, died on May 31.
He was 96 and had been living in Florida since his retirement in 1999,
He was born April 11, 1925 in Spain and was ordained in Burgos there on June 3, 1950, by Bishop Luciano Peres Platero. He was a member of the Spanish Institute of Foreign Missions and served in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), Africa for 21 years before coming to the Diocese of Camden in 1970.
He offered his priestly ministry mostly to the Hispanic Apostolate of the Diocese of Camden. He was parochial vicar at Saint Casimir Parish, Woodbine, 1970-78, and in residence at Our Lady of Victories, Landisville, 1978-99.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, Sebring, Florida, on June 7.
