Father Joseph Victor Jurkowski, 89, former parochial vicar and chaplain in the Diocese of Camden, died June 5.
A native of Poland, he studied for the priesthood at the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, and was ordained July 1, 1958.
In 1992, he came to the Diocese of Camden, serving as chaplain at Burdette Tomlin Hospital, Cape May Court House, and in-residence at nearby Our Lady of the Angels Parish.
A year later, he briefly served as parochial vicar in Westmont’s Holy Saviour Parish before being assigned to Saint Michael, Gibbstown, from 1993 to 2000.
In 2000, he moved to Saint Nicholas of Tolentine, Atlantic City, as parochial vicar, serving there until his retirement in 2010.
A visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. June 10 at Saint Joseph Church, 1010 Liberty St., Camden. Bishop Dennis Sullivan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will take place at Saint Joseph Cemetery, 240 Lower Landing Road, Chews Landing, N.J.
