Filipino celebration

Church of the Assumption, Galloway Township held a Filipino Mass, relic veneration, coronation and fellowship on Sunday afternoon, May 9, to honor the Filipino celebration of Santacruzan, which remembers the Blessed Virgin Mary and the discovery of the cross of Jesus Christ. In 324 in Jerusalem, it is believed, St. Helena discovered the cross that was used in Jesus’ crucifixion. In the Philippines, the month of May is dedicated to the Blessed Mother. Father Danilo Quiray, spiritual director of the Filipino Apostolate, celebrated Mass in the Filipino (“Tagalog”) language. The procession after Mass included Sagalas, young ladies representing the various depictions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a coronation of the Blessed Mother.
