Upward of 300 people came out from Sunday, June 6-Tuesday, June 8, for Good News International’s 2010 Catholic Tent Revival, held on the grounds of Our Lady of Pompeii Church, St. Padre Pio Parish in Vineland.
Bishop Joseph A. Galante celebrated evening Mass on the final day of the event. Music was provided by Hearts Afire Ministry. The revival began and ended with talks by Johnette Benkovic, host of EWTN’s “Women of Grace Live” and founder and president of Living His Life Abundantly, who spoke of how her Catholic faith sustained her when she lost her son and husband. She spoke on all three days, including directing a workshop on “true feminism” on June 7.
The other featured speakers were Justin Fatica, co-founder and director of Hard As Nails, a youth ministry, and Father Bill Halbing, pastor of St. Antoninus Church in Newark.
Calling the revival a “great experience,” Father Peter Saporito, pastor of St. Padre Pio, noted that the outdoor event gave worshippers to opportunity to “praise without walls,” where they are more relaxed, and more eager to vocally praise God. “The (idea) of church is to bring joy,” he said.
