The Knights of Columbus Madonna Maria Council of St. Joseph Church, in Sea Isle City, and St. Brendan the Navigator Parish, in Avalon and Stone Harbor, honored several community members May 22.
The “Student of the Year” was Sarah Shields, a senior at Holy Spirit High School, Absecon, who will be attending Temple University in the fall.
The 2014 “Family of the Year” award went to the Robinsons – dad Craig, mom Betsy, son Josh and daughter Allie – of St. Joseph Church.
The “Senior Citizen of the Year” was Julie Bry, a Eucharistic Minister, Marion Guide, and Environmental Decorating Committee member.
Sara Bartelson was the “Citizen of the Year” award recipient. She is an avid supporter of the St. Cashmere Thrift Shop in Woodbine, which feeds more than 200 families each month.
The “Outstanding Contributions to the Church and the Community” award was presented to Sea Isle’s Donna Hadfield, a member of numerous St. Joseph Parish ministries, a co-organizer of the Sea Isle City Garden Club’s annual flower sale fundraiser (which benefits charitable efforts) and a supporter of other worthy causes.
Former Grand Knight Tony Elhaj received an award for “Outstanding Contributions to the Madonna Maria Council.” Knight Les Turner was also honored for his outstanding contributions to the Council. Both honorees are active members of St. Joseph Church.
