Local Hispanic leader writes book on Charismatic Renewal

Andres Arango, Bishop’s Delegate for Hispanic Ministry and Director of Evangelization in the Diocese of Camden, has written “Renovación Carismática Católica: Una Corriente de Gracia,” a Spanish-language book that will guide lay people and pastoral leaders to understand the Charismatic Renewal and its importance for Catholic Hispanics in the United States.

Arango, a leader of the Charismatic Renewal in the United States and Latin America, utilizes his many years of involvement as a diocesan, national and international leader to offer a pastoral vision of the powerful and dynamic experience of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and its biblical and theological roots.

He hopes the book is “of great help to deepen in what the Holy Spirit does in the current of grace of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal; and at the same time, it motivates us to be led in our personal life by the same Spirit of God.”

The book focuses on such topics as the identity of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and its history and mission; the movement’s contributions to the Latino community, particularly in the United States; and recommendations for building bridges within the church, and ideas for incorporating the evangelization efforts of the movement into parish life activities.

Bishop Nelson Perez of Cleveland, chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Cultural Diversity, called Arango’s work “a great resource, both for the leaders of the Charismatic Renewal and for all those who wish to know more about this movement.”

“Based on his years of service in ecclesial structures and as an international leader in the Renewal, (Arango) has been able to present the reality of this ‘Current of Grace,’ showing the opportunities that the church has to integrate this movement in the service of evangelization,” he said.
