Pat Doyle, priest’s older brother, dies in Ireland

Aoife's Birthday present

Pat Doyle, older brother of Msgr. Michael Doyle, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Camden, died Aug. 4. He was 82.

His Mass of Resurrection was celebrated on Aug. 7 in St. Colmcille Church, Aughnacliffe, County Longford, Ireland. Interment was in St. Colmcille’s Cemetery there.

Msgr. Doyle remembered his brother as “a man of strong faith and delightful goodness.”

In a letter to his parishioners, Msgr. Doyle remembered when his brother was 24 and “began talking about building a new house.” “His mother, fond of the old one, where she conceived and raised her children, was not keen on it. His father said to his mother (I was present) ‘Did that man there ever ask to do anything that wasn’t right?’ The house was built. We all moved into it in July 1958. We moved 30 feet.”

Mr. Doyle is survived by Margaret, his wife of 54 years, and five daughters, Geraldine and husband, Michael, Rosemarie and husband Sean, and Regina, Deirdre and Sheila. Also four grandchildren, Brian and Aoife, Aaron and Emma.

A Month’s Mind Mass, a Celtic tradition to remember the dead with a special Mass one month after the death, will be celebrated on Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church.
