Determined to remind those passing through South Jersey that all life, from conception to natural death, is sacred, Atlantic County Knights of Columbus have sponsored four billboards with right to life messages for the month of October.
The four participating Knights councils – Saint Vincent de Paul Council 3451, Mays Landing; All Saints Council 6277, Northfield-Linwood; Saint Joseph Council 10220, Somers Point, and Saint Katharine Drexel Council 12868, Egg Harbor Township – sponsored “Keep Christ in Christmas” billboards last December along major roadways in the county, and took up the challenge issued by Philip Keller, N.J. Knights of Columbus District Deputy 50, to share another faith-filled message.
“Last year, I set the challenge to the men to put up a right-to-life message for the following October,” recalled Keller. “The message of life is out.”
The four illuminated billboards with the life-affirming messages stand on the east- and westbound lanes of Route 322 (Black Horse Pike) in Egg Harbor Township and on Route 40 (Harding Highway) near Forty-Wire Road, Mays Landing. Each of the four councils contributed about $750 toward renting the billboards for the month.
Keller explained the Knights’ motivation to remind passers-by about the value of life, saying, “With what we are dealing with today, and even though Roe v. Wade was overturned, it is more important than ever to let everyone know the Knights help mothers and their babies with assistance during and after their pregnancy. The bottom line is: we are getting the word out.”
