A response from a disillusioned Catholic to Bishop Joseph Galante’s message in the Catholic Star Herald, March 18. I am not disillusioned because I am once again confronting another case of horrific crimes against children. Every human being is capable of sin, whether they be Catholic, Muslim or Jew. We should never judge a group based on the actions of one person or a select few. I want you to understand that the only cause of my disappointment is with the church hierarchy and their efforts to protect the criminals over the needs of the children. You never directly address this in your message. The overwhelming abundance of evidence that this coverup was going on for many years in many countries and was supported by all levels of the church hierarchy is what smashed my faith in the church. Fortunately, my faith in Jesus remains intact. Unlike some countries in the Middle East, the target of my anger will remain in power for years until they are called to face judgment before the Lord, my God.
