With the June 25 edition of the Catholic Star Herald, it is my pleasure to announce that Jennifer Mauro has joined the paper as managing editor. Our long-time managing editor, Carl Peters, will be staying on for several weeks during this time of transition until his retirement on July 16.
Jennifer is a seasoned and award-winning journalist of more than two decades, having previously worked for the Times Herald-Record of Middleton, N.Y.; Courier News and Home News Tribune in Central Jersey; Bavarian News (U.S. Army Public Affairs Office) Schweinfurt, Germany; and for the past five years as managing editor of The Monitor Magazine, the Catholic publication for the Diocese of Trenton. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Rutgers University teaching opinion writing.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, where she earned her B.A. in communication/journalism with a minor in English, Jennifer’s career has evolved to match the changing way we now produce and consume news. Though she began her career in the ink & paper heyday of news, she has seamlessly and successfully shown her skill at embracing the now-routine nature of the digital news world, both with multi-channel distribution and multi-media formatted content.
A newsperson in the truest sense, we are very much looking forward to the new perspectives Jennifer brings to the Catholic Star Herald while preserving and expanding upon our own award-winning ink and digital offerings.
Of course, Jennifer has enormous shoes to fill replacing a managing editor as beloved and iconic as Carl Peters. A mainstay of the newspaper since 1989, I cannot properly encapsulate Carl’s impact on Catholic journalism in South Jersey in this brief announcement. However, I can promise you that we may have a few more words on the subject around the time of his departure from the paper.
Finally, to our readers, thank you for your continued interest in our newsprint and digital offerings. While the leadership of the newspaper is changing, our dedication to provide you with quality Catholic news stories, both here at home and around the world, remains constant.
