Calling Aug. 14-20 a “life-changing week” that will give high school-age youth “a sense of belonging, purpose and pride” as they serve others, José Rodriguez, director of the Diocese’s Office of Family and Youth, invites incoming freshman to seniors to the annual Summer in the City immersion event.
For seven days, while residing at the Blessed Carlo Acutis Center in Absecon, youth will participate in a program that melds service with faith and reflection as they learn that “We are the Body of Christ/Somos el Cuerpo de Cristo,” as its theme states.
Summer in the City “gives our young people the understanding that we form part of the Body of Christ, and we have a responsibility, with our gifts and talents, to be the hands, feet and ears of Jesus as we listen to the needs of those around us,” Rodriguez said.
To accomplish this, the youth will spend their days serving those in need at locations including the Father Benedict House, the Arc of Atlantic County and Catholic Charities, and the evenings engaged in reflection, prayer, Eucharistic Adoration and fellowship.
Registration for Summer in the City is $160, and includes meals and lodging. For more information, call 856-583-2908, or e-mail Jose.Rodriguez@camdendiocese.org.
