Andrew Zappley, seventh grader at Holy Trinity Regional School in Westville Grove, is one of the final four contestants in MasterChef Junior, pitting the best young chefs in the country against each for $100,000.
On the Feb. 10 episode, six contestants, divided into two teams, competed in a Los Angeles’ French bistro. They watched the restaurant’s executive chef prepare two appetizers and two main courses that they had to imitate: Mediterranean Octopus with Merguez Sausage, and Pea Ravioli with Carrots and Greek Yogurt, and Skate Wing with Capers and Brown Butter Sauce, and Flat Iron Steak with Herb Butter and Pommes Aligot.
After Andrew, a team leader, got too bossy and screamed orders at his team, judge Gordon Ramsay took him aside, had the 14 year-old cool off, and helped get his team back on track.
Two contestants were eliminated. Andrew and the other three remaining contestants will compete in the semifinals this Tuesday, Feb. 17, 8 p.m., on the Fox Network.
