Ten new pastors and a rector

Bishop Dennis Sullivan has announced 10 new pastors and one new rector in the Diocese of Camden, all effective July 1:

Father Timothy E. Byerley from Pastor, Mary, Queen of All Saints, Pennsauken to Pastor, Saint Peter Parish, Merchantville for a six-year term;

Father Mark R. Cavagnaro from Pastor, Our Lady of Hope, Blackwood to Pastor, Saint Brendan the Navigator, Avalon;

Father Michael J. Field from Sabbatical to Pastor, Saint Bridget University Parish, Glassboro for a six-year term;

Father John J. Fisher, OSFS, from Outside the Diocese to Rector, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Camden;

Father Edward M. Friel from Parochial Vicar, Christ the Good Shepherd, Vineland to Pastor, Mary, Queen of All Saints, Pennsauken for a six year term;

Father Vincent G. Guest from Pastor, Holy Cross, Bridgeton to Pastor, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Lindenwold for a six-year term;

Father Anthony J. Manuppella from Pastor, Saint Peter Parish, Merchantville to Pastor, Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, Northfield for a six-year term;

Father Joseph L. Pham from Director of Catholic Identity, Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill and In-Residence, Mary, Queen of All Saints, Pennsauken to Pastor, Infant Jesus, Woodbury Heights for a six-year term;

Father Peter M. Saporito from Pending an Assignment to Pastor, Saint Mary of Mount Carmel, Hammonton for a six-year term;

Father Joseph T. Szolack from Pastor, Infant Jesus, Woodbury Heights, to Pastor, Our Lady of Hope, Blackwood for a six-year term; and

Father Matthew R. Weber from Pastor, Saint Bridget University Parish, Glassboro to Pastor, Holy Cross, Bridgeton for a six-year term.

 

Father Byerley, 61, holds a doctorate in religious education from Fordham and master’s degrees in divinity (Mount Saint Mary), spirituality (Saint Charles Seminary) and ecumenism (Princeton Theological Seminary). He was ordained on May 25, 1985. He was pastor at Mary, Queen of All Saints since 2013. From 2004-10, he was pastor at Saint John Vianney in Deptford. He is the vice postulator for the beatification cause of Maria Esperanza.

 

Father Cavagnaro, 70, attended Gregorian University and the North American College in Rome, and Saint Mary Seminary in Baltimore, before being ordained on Dec. 18, 1970. Since 2010, he has been pastor at Our Lady of Hope. Other pastorships include Resurrection, Marmora (1994-2005); Saint Agnes, Blackwood (2005-10); and Saint Jude (2010). He taught at Saint Joseph High School, Hammonton, after ordination and later served as assistant CCD director, youth and adult catechesis for the diocese.

 

Father Field, 62, was ordained on May 29, 1982. He is a graduate of Mount Saint Mary in Emmitsburg, Md. Father Field was pastor at Saint Joseph, Swedesboro (2002-05); Queen of Heaven, Cherry Hill (2005-09); Saint Ann, Wildwood, and Assumption, Wildwood Crest (2009-10). From 2010-15, he was part of a Team of Priests in Solidum at Notre Dame de la Mer, Wildwood. He also served as director of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), from 2000-03.

 

Father Fisher, OSFS, 57, was ordained on June 4, 1988, and has spent many years in Catholic education. He has been on the faculty of DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa., since 2011 and was a faculty member there 2005-08. He taught at Father Judge High School, Philadelphia (1982-84, 2010-11); Bishop Verot High School, Fort Myers, Fla. (1988-92); Salesianum School, Wilmington, Del. (1998-2004); and Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia (2009-10). He was principal at Salesianum School (1998-2004), Interim principal at Nativity Preparatory School of Wilmington (2008-09), and superior of the Salesianum Oblate Community (1996-1998.

 

Father Friel, 55, ordained on May 27, 1989, has served at Christ the Good Shepherd, Vineland from 2013. He was pastor of Saint Joseph, Woodstown (2005-09); Holy Saviour, Westmont, and Saint John, Collingswood (2010); and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, Collingswood (2010-11).

 

Father Guest, 56, was ordained on May 19, 2012. He is a graduate of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, Temple University Law School, the University of Pennsylvania, Fels Institute of Government, and the Theological College at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Since 2013, he has been pastor at Holy Cross.

 

Father Manuppella, 64, has been pastor of Saint Peter since 2000. He was pastor of Saint Mary Magdalen in Millville (1992-2000). He attended Saint Charles Seminary in Philadelphia, before being ordained on May 20, 1976.

 

Father Joseph Pham, 52, has been Director of Catholic Identity at Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill, since last fall. Before then, he was pastor at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Atlantic City from 2005-15. A graduate of Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., and Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia, he was ordained on May 16, 1998.

 

Father Saporito, 67, attended Saint Hyacinth College and Seminary in Granby, Mass., and was ordained on May 7, 1977. He was incardinated into the Diocese of Camden on Sept. 30, 1992, and served as principal of Saint James High School in Carneys Point. He was pastor of Our Lady of Pompeii, Vineland, (2000); and Saint Padre Pio, Vineland (2003-15).

 

Father Szolack, 55, was ordained on May 28, 1988, after attending Saint Charles Seminary in Philadelphia. Since 2010, he has served as pastor at Infant Jesus. From 2009-10, he was pastor of Saint Margaret, Woodbury Heights. He also served as a teacher at Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill; assistant vocation director for the Diocese of Camden; and Director of Men in Theological Formation at Saint Charles Seminary.

 

Father Weber, 52, was incardinated into the Diocese of Camden in 2010. He has been pastor at Saint Bridget since 2010. He was ordained on Sept. 8, 1990. His previous assignments in the Diocese of Camden include parochial vicar at Saint Luke, Stratford (2007-09) and administrator at Saint Bridget (2009-10). He is currently writing a series of columns on mercy and forgiveness for the Catholic Star Herald.
