The National Collection for The Catholic University of America

My dear friends in Christ,

I appeal to you to give generously to the National Collection for The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Catholic University is the only institution of higher education founded by the U.S. bishops and chartered by the Vatican. It is the national university of the Catholic Church and it is charged with the responsibility of educating the young men and women from our community, from every geographical region of the country, and from far-reaching corners of the globe.

Catholic University’s mission centers on the discovery of knowledge and truth through excellence in teaching and research, all in service to the church. Catholic University is faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ and dedicated to advancing the dialogue between faith and reason. Here are three ways, of the many, that Catholic University serves the mission of the church:

• Nearly 500 Catholic parishes participate in the University’s Parish Scholarship Program, through which 1,500 undergraduates are nominated by their pastors to receive annual scholarships, valued at $4.5 million.

• Catholic University trains leaders in the church. Through its national seminary, the university provides graduate degrees for seminarians sponsored by nearly 195 Catholic dioceses in the U.S. More than 100 active and emeritus bishops and archbishops are Catholic University alumni.

• Catholic University serves God through serving others in the United States and abroad. Students volunteer with hundreds of organizations, including the Little Sisters of the Poor, Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Charities and Sr. Ann’s Infant and Maternity Home. They deliver food to people who are homeless, serve in soup kitchens and shelters, and tutor in after-school programs. They also volunteer for mission service trips at a number of international mission sites. Your gift offers students a unique opportunity to prepare for a lifetime of faith and service.
