Two of three 2017-18 recipients of the Diocese of Camden Black Catholic Ministries Scholarship had a chance to thank their benefactors at the annual “Afternoon of Jazz” dinner dance on April 22 at Masso’s in Glassboro. With music by “To the Max,” the popular event drew nearly 400 attendees.
Sydney Prescott, who graduated from Saint Mary School, Williamstown, said she was set on Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Newfield from the time she was in sixth grade. Giselle Williams told the audience she was determined to follow her brother to Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill, after her graduation from Saint Michael the Archangel. With grace and gratitude, both scholarship recipients thanked attendees for helping to make their high school dreams possible.
“This year, we will be able to fund five, $3,000 scholarships,” said James Andrews, director of Black Catholic Ministries for the Diocese of Camden. Scholarships are awarded to eighth grade students to help with the cost of freshman tuition at a Catholic secondary school in the diocese.
