Father John Fisher, OSFS, will preside over the consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary during the 12:05 p.m. Mass March 25 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Camden.
Due to his being out of town for seminary meetings, Bishop Dennis J. Sullivan has entrusted this most important cause to Father Fisher, Cathedral rector. All of the Diocese’s faithful are asked to partake, either at the Cathedral, an event at their local parish or by a small prayer around noon that day.
More than a week ago, Pope Francis asked bishops, priests, religious men and women, laity around the globe and “every community and every believer to join me on Friday, March 25, the feast of the Annunciation, in making a solemn act of consecration of humanity, especially of Russia and Ukraine, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so that she, the Queen of Peace, may obtain peace for the world.”
Since the Russian invasion Feb. 24, almost 3.4 million people have fled Ukraine, according to the U.N. Refugee Agency.
“Sadly, the violent aggression against Ukraine does not stop, a senseless massacre where each day slaughter and atrocities are repeated,” the pope said March 20 after reciting the Angelus prayer with visitors in St. Peter’s Square. “There is no justification for this!”
