For nearly 50 years, volunteers have been ensuring that the carnival remains a central part of the local community by serving up funnel cakes, grilling sausages, handing out lemonades, staffing ticket and game booths – and cleaning up all the gooey goodness at the end of each night. In addition to helping fund ministries, parish carnivals, organizers say, are a good way for parishioners and the community at-large to meet new friends, get involved in church life or learn more about the Catholic faith.
Just ask Father Sanjai Devis, VC, pastor, and the volunteers who have been serving for decades. They joined the Talking Catholic podcast during a broadcast from the carnival July 1. Visit talking.catholicstarherald.org.
