Deacon John Gallimore, Sr., 88, formerly of Sicklerville, one of the first deacons in the Diocese of Camden, died July 26.

A U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War, Deacon Gallimore was a retired air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration, working at the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center in Pomona. He was a member of the Williamstown VFW, American Legion Post 0252 and the Maintenance Club at Forest Meadows.

On Oct. 4, 1976, Gallimore was one of 27 men ordained by Bishop George Guilfoyle as first permanent deacons in the Diocese.

He was the first deacon at Church of the Assumption (now Christ the Redeemer Parish), Atco, where he served for 40 years. As well, he volunteered at Saint John of God Community Services, Westville Grove.

Gallimore was the husband of the late Sarah Ann; father of Cynthia (David) Boehly, Laura (Robert) Raio, Angela Gallimore, Diane (Reas) Kondraschow, Mary (Douglas) Priestley, and John R. (Jennifer) Gallimore Jr.; and a devoted grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 19.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 29 at the Church of the Assumption, Christ the Redeemer Parish.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Saint John of God Community Services at https://www.sjogcs.org/.
