Bishop Dennis Sullivan celebrated a Mass of Remembrance for deceased clergy Nov. 8 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden. Priests and deacons of the Diocese were in attendance, as well as religious sisters, diocesan staff and members of the community. The liturgy serves to remember and pray for all faithfully departed bishops, priests and deacons who have ministered in the Church of Camden.
“In the Catholic Church, November is traditionally known as the Month of the Holy Souls,” the Bishop preached in his homily. “We pray for our brothers who have gone from this life to eternal life.”
Photos of the deceased clergy were placed in the church, with a candle in front of each photo. Those remembered were: Deacon Joseph F. Beebe, Deacon Paul Bubeck; Father Joseph P. Capella, Father Thomas S. Capperella, Father John M. Fleming, Msgr. Thomas M. Flynn, Msgr. John T. Frey, Msgr. J. Gerald Gallagher, Deacon John Gallimore Sr., Father Richard J. Hadyka, Father Joseph V. Jurkowski, Deacon J. Brian Kearney, Deacon Hipolito Lagaras, Deacon Paul K. Lee and Deacon Thomas Moleski.
“The communion of saints unites us with these brothers,” Bishop Sullivan said. “We pray for them and ask them to pray for us.”
