
Father John Bruni, 72, a retired priest of the Diocese of Camden, died Feb. 8.
Ordained to the priesthood May 22, 1976, Father Bruni’s first assignment was at Atlantic City’s Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, where he served as parochial vicar from 1976 to 1978.
In 1976, he also began teaching religion at Saint Joseph High School, Hammonton. Four years later, he joined the faculty at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon. From 1985 to 1990, he taught at Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester City.
Father Bruni was administrator of Saint Michael, Gibbstown, from 2000 to 2005.
He also served as parochial vicar at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Vineland (1990-95); Saint Agnes, Blackwood (1995-2000); Saint Michael (2000); Saint Isidore, Vineland (2005-09); Queen of Angels, Landisville (2009-11); Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Newfield (2011-13); Incarnation, Mantua (2013-18); and, just before retirement, Our Lady of Peace, Williamstown (2018-2019).
Born in Philadelphia, Father Bruni studied at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., before being ordained a priest by Bishop George H. Guilfoyle at Saint Cecilia Church, Pennsauken.
A reception of the body will be held Monday, Feb. 20, at 5 p.m. at Incarnation Church, 240 Main St., Mantua, with a viewing to follow until 7 p.m. There will be a second viewing, also at the church, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at All Saints Cemetery, 1300 Tuckahoe Road, Newfield.
