In a recent sit-down with the Catholic Star Herald, Bishop Joseph Williams shared a glimpse into some of his favorite pastimes:
Favorite hobbies: Reading and mountain biking. I love sports in general. My mom always told me that since I could walk, I had a ball in my hand. I love playing catch, baseball, football, basketball. Eventually, tennis became my best sport.
A place you would like to visit: Ireland. That’s my mom’s heritage, and Saint Patrick is my confirmation saint and kind of my bishop patron. My crozier has the shamrock; I dedicated that to Saint Patrick.
Favorite places you have visited: The Holy Land. After that, probably Ecuador, Mexico and France.
Favorite kind of music or artist: I listen to everything. From Metallica way back in my high school time, all the way to Mozart. There’s a pretty big gap there!
Favorite foods: Italian, Mexican and Ecuadorian.
Favorite movies: “Shawshank Redemption” always has to be up there. “It’s a Wonderful Life” never gets old. “Midnight in Paris.” And, let me be honest, “Karate Kid.” That was a Williams family classic.
Favorite reading: Dostoevsky, “The Brothers Karamazov.” Shakespeare and the classics, when I’m not reading theology and philosophy.
