Palm Sunday opens Holy Week, the most solemn week in the Church’s liturgical year. On this day, the Church celebrates Jesus’ entrance into the city of Jerusalem.

Chrism Mass

At the Chrism Mass, the bishop concelebrates with the priests of the Diocese, consecrates the Holy Chrism, and blesses the Oil of the Sick and Oil of Catechumens for use in parishes throughout the year. The Chrism Mass also manifests the communion of the priests with the bishop in the same priesthood and ministry of Jesus.

Mass of the Lord’s Supper

This Mass commemorates the institution of the sacraments of the Eucharist and Holy Orders. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper in the evening marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil). Washing of the feet and a procession to the altar of repose will take place.
