The Saint Augustine Preparatory School swimming team won its fourth straight state championship, becoming the first sports program in school history to do so.
The Hermits defeated Delbarton, 100-70, in the Non-Public state championship on Feb. 25 at the Neptune Aquatic Center to finish the season 9-0 and cap off an undefeated four-year run with 40 victories. It was the 10th swimming state championship in the school’s history.
The team was powered by Luke Bickett and Christian Shenk, who each won a pair of individual events. Bickett won the 200-yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle, while Shenk won the 200 and 100 free.
Alex Morrison won the 100 breaststroke, and Frank Ferzetti finished first in a pivotal 1-2-3 Hermits’ sweep in the 100 backstroke. Saint Augustine won eight of the 11 events including two of the three relays.
