Cars slowly drove by April 3 on the roads around Our Lady of Victories Church, Landisville, as about 100 men, women and children processed solemnly as witnesses to Christ’s Crucifixion on Good Friday.
For more than two hours, parishioners of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament portrayed Jesus, Roman soldiers, Saint Veronica and more for the annual live Stations of the Cross in Spanish. A few members of the community watched from their front steps, and, at one point, their savior was nailed to the cross – a public display of faith.
After the procession, the Good Friday liturgy began in the church with Father Ariel Hernandez, pastor of the Newfield parish, and Deacon Charles Schiapelli lying prostrate. The celebration of the Lord’s Passion continued with the reading of the Passion, special intercessions, veneration of the cross and Holy Communion. In accord with the ancient tradition of the Church, Mass is not celebrated on Good Friday.
