With a church filled with joy, praise and prayer, the Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Renewal of the Diocese of Camden celebrated the spirit of Pentecost on May 16 at Saint Joachim Parish in Bellmawr.

“The Church needs men and women filled with the Holy Spirit who live their faith with passion and proclaim Jesus Christ with joy,” said Andrés Arango, the Bishop’s Delegate for Hispanic Ministry for the Diocese and coordinator of CHARIS America (Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service).

Andrés Arango, the Bishop’s Delegate for Hispanic Ministry for the Diocese, kneels as he is prayed over during the “Burning in the Fire of Pentecost” retreat held at Saint Joachim Parish.

Arango was the main presenter for the night of evangelization and spiritual renewal with the theme, “Burning in the Fire of Pentecost.” Faithful of all ages – including entire families – came from various parishes and Hispanic communities across South Jersey to prepare for the Solemnity of Pentecost. Together, they joined for communal prayer, adoration, teaching and openness to the action of the Holy Spirit.

During his reflection, Arango reminded the faithful that Pentecost is not merely a historical event celebrated once a year, but a living reality that continues to renew the Church every day.

He emphasized the need for a Church filled with the Holy Spirit, passionate about evangelization and committed to proclaiming Jesus Christ to the world. He also invited those present to rediscover the call of every baptized person: to live as missionary disciples.

The evening began with words of welcome and encouragement by Elder Méndez, diocesan coordinator of the Hispanic Charismatic Renewal, who invited everyone present to open their hearts to God’s action.

In addition, leaders from the Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Renewal led several moments of revival and prayer, encouraging participants to ask for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon their lives, families and parish communities. Many people raised their hands in prayer as the assembly responded enthusiastically to the songs and praise.

One of the most significant moments of the evening was the prayer of the Novena to the Holy Spirit, especially for the Hispanic families and communities of the Diocese.

In addition, the event’s organizers highlighted how the active participation of families, youth and adults reflected the desire of many people to grow in their relationship with God.

The gathering concluded with a Holy Hour led by Father Dalton Reyes, the diocesan spiritual adviser for the Hispanic Charismatic Renewal. In an atmosphere of praise, adoration, and contemplation, participants had the opportunity to remain before Jesus in the Eucharist and present their personal, family and community intentions.

Many attendees shared that the entire experience helped them renew their faith and strengthen their hope. Some expressed feeling motivated to serve more actively in their parishes and to continue growing in the life of the Spirit.
