The new principal of Saint Mary School, East Vineland, is no stranger to Catholic education.
“Throughout my career as a Catholic educator, I have been blessed to serve in a variety of roles that have strengthened my passion for Catholic education and the mission of forming young people in faith, knowledge and service,” said Margaret Kent, who kicks off her first academic year as principal of Saint Mary this fall.
Over the course of nearly 25 years, Kent has had positions as a teacher, instructional leader, accreditation specialist and school principal, and in each role she has strived “to create learning environments where students are challenged academically, nurtured spiritually and encouraged to recognize God’s presence in their daily lives.”
Kent most recently served as principal of Holy Name School, Camden, a Catholic Partnership School community she described as having a dedicated faculty and the strong support of both parents and parish leaders. A graduate of Rutgers University, she also taught at Most Holy Redeemer School, Westville, and San Miguel School, Camden.
As she embarks upon this next chapter of her career, Kent said she is filled with gratitude and excitement.
“I have long admired the strength of Catholic education and feel truly blessed to become part of this vibrant and welcoming school community,” she said. “I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our students, families, faculty, pastors and parish communities as we continue the school’s proud tradition of academic excellence and faith formation.”
In a recent interview, Kent reflected on her prior work experiences and how they have fueled her passion for teaching and leading in a faith-filled environment.
“My experiences as a middle school language arts teacher, elementary educator and school administrator have reinforced my belief that Catholic schools are extraordinary communities,” she said, “where faith and learning come together to shape the hearts and minds of our children.”
Her latest leadership position also connects with her own Catholic faith, and her desire to support the faith development of each of her students.
“I believe every child is a gift from God, and it is both a privilege and a responsibility to help each student discover the talents and purpose God has given them,” she said. “My hope is that together, we will continue to strengthen the Catholic identity of Saint Mary School, while inspiring our students to grow as compassionate leaders, lifelong learners, and faithful disciples of Christ.”
