Last month, The Mews at Saint Mary, a 75-unit senior housing community in Williamston managed by the Diocese of Camden’s Diocesan Housing Services Corporation (DHSC), was formally awarded the 2026 Governor’s Excellence in Housing Development Award.
Given by the Governor’s Conference on Housing and Economic Development, the honor was presented during a special ceremony on Sept. 30 at the Hall of Fame Award and Governor’s Excellence in Housing and Economic Awards Brunch at Harrah’s Resort and Casino in Atlantic City.
The Housing and Economic Development Hall of Fame and the Governor’s Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards celebrate individuals, organizations, and projects that align with the core missions of the Governor’s Conference on Housing and Economic Development coordinating agencies: New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA), the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority (NJRA), the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), and the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Financing Agency (NJHMFA).
Specifically, the Governor’s Excellence in Housing Development Award recognizes an exceptional project that provides high-quality, affordable housing options to meet the diverse needs of residents.
“The honorees of this year’s Governor’s Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards are improving lives and strengthening neighborhoods through their transformative projects and programs,” said New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Jacquelyn A. Suárez.
“Their work shows us what is possible when organizations, businesses, and government commit to putting people and community at the heart of their decisions and projects. We congratulate each of the honorees on their achievements and encourage them to keep striving for excellence in their future endeavors.”
Last spring, demonstrating a shared commitment to providing South Jersey seniors with safe, affordable housing that offers a sound quality of life, the Mews at Saint Mary held its grand opening and dedication.
Located behind Our Lady of Peace Parish, Williamstown, the facility offers such services as on-site wellness services through the Diocese’s VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services and counseling through Catholic Charities of South Jersey.
“We were delighted and honored to receive this award,” said Jamie Reynolds, DHSC executive director, noting that the project “was the culmination of many years of hard work” between his organization and its partners: The Walters Group, Aetna CVS, R4 Capital, Housing and Urban Development, and the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency.
“We look forward to serving the seniors in the Williamstown community and greater Gloucester County for many years to come,” he added.
With 10 properties across the Diocese of Camden, the Diocesan Housing Services Corporation manages more than 900 affordable apartment units, with a special emphasis on serving senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
