In celebration of the Oct. 4 Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, the Catholic Star Herald held a pet contest in which the winner will receive a professional photo shoot.
This year is also the Jubilee Year of Saint Francis, marking the 800th anniversary of his death.
The staff of the Catholic Star Herald cast their votes, and the winner is …
Norbert Ostrom, from Saint Joachim Parish in Bellmawr!
Norbert, a Sulcata tortoise currently about 12 inches long but still growing, “already has the presence of a much bigger tortoise,” said owner Sherilyn.
Despite moving a bit more slowly than your typical pet, “he’s curious, determined and always exploring his world … proving that the most special pets don’t have to bark, meow or even run to leave a huge footprint on your heart.”
Considered a part of the family, Norbert is a “little reminder to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life.”
