The 19th Catholic Charities’ Annual Dinner & Awards Ceremony will take place Oct. 11 at Resorts Hotel in Atlantic City. This year, the event will recognize Dr. Ali A. Houshmand, president of Rowan University, Glassboro.

“President Houshmand will be honored for his commitment to the accessibility and affordability of education through the innovative Rowan Global Learning Partnerships with the community colleges in South Jersey,” said Kevin Hickey, executive director of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Camden. “President Houshmand’s commitment to improving access to education for all income levels is perhaps best exemplified by Rowan’s founding of The SHOP in 2017. The SHOP is Rowan University’s first-ever on-campus food pantry and resource center available to students in need.”
“This dedication to using the university’s resources to lift up both the communities of South Jersey and individual Rowan students reveals President Houshmand’s commitment to solidarity, development and the dignity of the human person, all of which are values the Catholic Church is devoted to as well,” Hickey said.
Catholic Charities will also honor five individuals or organizations as Disciples of Mercy. These awardees will be announced in September. The nomination process will open soon at CatholicCharitiesCamden.org.
The Catholic Charities Annual Dinner & Awards Ceremony has the dual purpose of honoring extraordinary service performed by individuals committed to social justice and the needs of the poor, and raising funds that allow Catholic Charities to provide direct assistance to those they serve. Every penny raised goes to those in South Jersey who are in need, regardless of their faith. The event enables the organization to provide assistance to those in South Jersey who are experiencing eviction, homelessness, mental health issues, substance abuse and more.
Additionally, the annual dinner aims to promote the growth of Catholic Charities in South Jersey by identifying, cultivating and engaging individuals who are committed to the vision and mission of the organization and will become partners over time.
Tickets and sponsorships are available for the Catholic Charities Annual Dinner at CatholicCharitiesCamden.org/CCAD.
