Catholic youth and their families from across the State of New Jersey are invited to a day of fun and faith at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson.
The New Jersey Catholic Youth Rally, scheduled for May 21, is an opportunity “to bring the young Church and families together for food, entertainment and Catholic spirituality, which includes Mass at the end of the day,” says Jose Rodriguez, director of the Diocese’s Office of Family and Youth Ministry.
Every year, the state’s Catholic (arch)dioceses alternate which hosts the annual rally’s opening ceremonies and closing liturgy. This year, the Diocese of Metuchen will lead the day’s start, with the Archdiocese of Newark spearheading the liturgy. Auxiliary Bishop Michael A. Saporito from Newark will be the main celebrant of the Mass.
Rodriguez described the auxiliary bishop as having a heart on fire for evangelizing the young Church, adding, “It will be nice to have him address the youth.”
The amusement park will also be open to the general public on the day of the event, which Rodriguez calls another exciting aspect of the gathering.
“Youth will encounter others like them around the park, not afraid to wear a shirt with the name of their parish on it. We’ve even had families there just for the day, but when they see what’s going on and what we’re doing, they’ll come to Mass,” Rodriguez says.
“Anytime the Church can bring families together,” he adds, “it’s a win.”
The New Jersey Catholic Youth Rally will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and will include an opening ceremony, time to explore the park, a buffet-style lunch and celebration of Mass. Tickets are $65 per person for parking, admission and a meal voucher. For season pass holders, tickets are $30 for a meal voucher.
