Bishop visits with Saint Margaret students on Ash Wednesday

Bishop Dennis Sullivan celebrated a prayer service on Ash Wednesday with the faculty and students at Saint Margaret Regional School, Woodbury Heights, for the start of Lent.

During his homily, Bishop Sullivan discussed the three pillars of Lent – prayer, fasting and almsgiving – and reminded students that the ashes they receive on their foreheads identifies them as believers in Jesus Christ and His Resurrection.

In addition to being joined by others including Father Joseph Pham, parish pastor, and Dr. Bill Watson, diocesan superintendent of Catholic schools, Bishop was accompanied by Dr. Michael Sims, diocesan director of Life & Justice Ministries. Dr. Sims spoke to all about the kickoff of Catholic Relief Services’ annual Rice Bowl campaign. The students, along with their families, were urged during Lent to collect monies, which will serve the vulnerable overseas.
