BLACKWOOD – Amidst the rush and chaos of the modern world, how do busy Catholic professionals stay emotionally healthy and spiritually alive?
Some of those answers were presented the morning of November Nov. 21 at the gathering of the Catholic Business Network of South Jersey held at Our Lady of Hope Parish.
After Mass in the chapel, which was celebrated by parish parochial vicar Father Paul Olszewski, the 40 business professionals made their way to the Blessed Michael J. McGivney Room. There, this month’s speaker, Russ Johnson, CBN treasurer and managing partner of Main Street Investment Group in Pitman, shared the life-changing wisdom he received from reading the book, “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” by John Mark Comer.
“Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life,” said Johnson, of Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish in Glassboro.
He unpacked the book’s four practices that aid in spiritual discipline: finding solitude; simplicity (such as getting rid of unwanted possessions); slowing down (like jumping in the longest checkout line to allow time for prayer or reflection); and practicing the Sabbath (making time for the Lord, rest and family).
“Through all these practices, we can all take time for what is really important, which is working on our relationship with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ,” he said.
After Johnson’s presentation, copies of the book were available for attendees.
The next CBN meeting will be held Dec. 12 at Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Haddon Township.
