On a recent Sunday afternoon, members of Mullica Hill’s Boy Scout Troop 7044 who are working toward their Catholic religious emblem award welcomed a panel of guests to discuss vocations. Joining the mostly high-school aged Scouts for the discussion were Father Michael Goyette, pastor of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, Franklinville, and parishioners Jennifer and Mark Mignano; Sisters Cecilia, Josie and Jacqueline of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Infant Jesus, and Dom Scarcella, parishioner of Saint Bridget University Parish, Glassboro. The group had an hour-long discussion on the nature of vocations to the priesthood, religious life, and single and married life. To encourage Scouts to grow stronger in their faith, scouting has approved programs developed by faith groups and offers religious emblems to signify their completion. The Boy Scouts of America has approved of these and allows the emblems to be worn on the official Scout uniform. Each religious group administers the programs individually.
