
Deacon Michael J. Carter, who has served as deacon at Our Lady of Lourdes, Glassboro for the last ten years, has been named deacon secretary to the bishop.
As deacon secretary, he is responsible for scheduling and accompanying Bishop Joseph Galante at diocesan liturgies and major events, as well as assisting the bishop at liturgical functions as master of ceremonies. As master of ceremonies, Deacon Carter will oversee the proper planning of liturgies and will ensure that they are carried out in accord with the General Instructions of the Roman Missal and the Ceremonial of Bishops.
Deacon Carter was ordained to the permanent diaconate on February 13, 1999 and was assigned to Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Glassboro. He has been business administrator of the parish since 1989.
He also serves as a member of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, the Deacon Personnel Board and the Diaconate Leadership Board and was an instructor for the Diaconate Formation Program.
Deacon Carter studied public administration at La Salle University and Glassboro State College and served in the United States Air Force.
