Joseph P. Ganiel, 89, of Pomona, the father of Father Joseph Ganiel, pastor of Holy Child Parish in Runnemede, died Jan. 15.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bernadette (Becker) Ganiel, six children: Sister Kathleen Ganiel, OSF, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Father Ganiel; Richard Ganiel (Renee); Annette Kubricki (Stephen); James Ganiel, and Mary Smail (Richard).
He is also survived by his brother Adolph Ganiel, and 12 grandchildren: Jessica Ganiel, Craig Ganiel (Laura), Jolene Falkiewicz (Joseph), Valerie Welsh (Andrew), Korey Kubricki, Jon Kubricki, Amelia Fifth (Adam), Richard Smail Jr. (Lizette), Sister Marie Therese of the Heart of Jesus, OCD, Erika Chapman (Billy), Sarah Conti (Marco), Joshua Smail, and 16 great-grandchildren.
A graduate of Saint Nicholas Catholic School, Egg Harbor City, he served in the U.S. Navy and was employed at Lenox China for 29 years. Mr. Ganiel was a lifelong member of Saint Nicholas/Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish and a Secular Franciscan for more than 50 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 20 at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, Egg Harbor City, followed by private burial at the Egg Harbor City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Carmelite Monastery, 361 Highland Blvd., Brooklyn, NY 11207-1910.
