The good works of Lily Cuticchia have been known around Camden County for nearly five years, so it should come as no surprise that the Catholic school fifth-grader recently put her talents to good use once again.
Last month, Cuticchia, who attends Saint Rose of Lima School in Haddon Heights, was joined by a team from Cooper Hospital University Medical Center to help fill 600 backpacks with items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, socks and messages of support for the homeless in Camden. Three hundred bags will be distributed this winter, carrying other items such as gloves and handwarmers, and 300 will be given out this summer, with sunscreen and hydration packs added.

All of the items and backpacks were purchased with the $7,100 that Cuticchia collected last spring. Every year, the youngster organizes an annual fundraiser with proceeds going to Cooper University Health Care’s homeless outreach; her mother, Jordan, is a supervisor of care coordination there.
“I like helping people who need it, and it makes me happy to know that others will be happy with these backpacks,” the youngster said.
She is already thinking about a possible book drive for this year’s upcoming fundraiser.
