Latest News ‘Fuzzy’ picture By Carmela Malerba - April 17, 2015 0 101 In conjunction with National Doctors’ Day, Lourdes Health System recently celebrated the contributions and accomplishments of beloved Lourdes pediatrician Dr. Gerald “Fuzzy” Fendrick with a portrait unveiling and reception. Dr. Fendrick served as Lourdes’ chief of Pediatrics for 34 years and as director of medical education. Called “the pediatrician’s pediatrician,” Dr. Fendrick often covered for other doctors to ensure patients had uninterrupted care. Even though he is retired, Dr. Fendrick still comes into the office when needed. A great doctor and a great baseball player, Dr. Fendrick almost didn’t make it into medicine. He practiced alongside Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese and other Brooklyn Dodgers. But he passed on a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals to attend college, and then medical school.
