Mary Quinn (nee Derry), 83, of Woodbury, an employee of the Diocese of Camden for more than 30 years, died Feb. 4.
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Mrs. Quinn came to Philadelphia in 1949. She was a resident of Woodbury Gardens for more than 55 years, and was a parishioner of Most Holy Redeemer Parish in Westville Grove.
From 1973-2002, she worked as a receptionist at the Camden Diocesan Center in Camden.
Upon retiring, she was awarded the Bishop’s Medal for Meritorious Service by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio.
“Mary was a wonderful person who helped everyone,” remembered Marie Breslin, who was a friend and knew Mrs. Quinn for over 30 years as a co-worker in the diocesan offices.
“She was a dedicated mother, and led a quiet life,” she added. “She was a very good Christian woman, and a very good friend.”
Mrs. Quinn was the widow of Frank J., who died in 1969; mother of Kathleen Nylund (Robert), John (Beth), Susanne Borton (Butch), and Maureen Nelson (Mark Meccariello); grandmother of Pete, Nathan, Colin, Heather, Shannon, and Zachary.
She is survived by her sisters Margaret Brannigan (Tony), Sally Thompson (Bob) of Plymouth, Mass., brothers Sean, Joe, Gerard of Ireland, Francis of Canada, and Thomas of New Zealand; Sisters-in-law Norma DiDonato and Marie Martell; predeceased by her sister Philomena Conroy. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the U.S., Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 10-11 a.m., at Most Holy Redeemer Church, 1219 Delsea Drive, Westville. A funeral Mass will follow at the church, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at New St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Bellmawr.
